8 Actors Who Haven’t Been Married Yet…And Here’s Why

Hollywood relationships run the gamut from marriages that lasted only a few hours to longtime couples who are aging gracefully after weathering the storm of fame together for decades. These love stories are chaotic and cinematic, but there’s a third category too: couples and individuals who have decided to opt out of marriage completely.

Many famous faces, both young and old, have spent their lives thus far enjoying being single, proving that there is no single blueprint for happiness and fulfillment in life and that marriage is not a necessary milestone for everyone. Here are some of the most notable actors who have never gotten married.

Charlize Theron

This ultimate boss babe has always been open about her love life and her views on marriage. She has raised two adopted daughters by herself and has always been vocal about not wanting to be a wife. On the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, she said, “Marriage is a long-term commitment, and I think I want a long-term commitment. I just don’t need to get married. I think a lot of that also has to do with the fact that I have a tremendous fear of not being able to get out of something.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leo has a thing for much younger women, and most of them probably aren’t ready to settle down and get married. That, combined with the fact that Leo himself is difficult to pin down on the subject, may explain his bachelorhood. In the past, he has hinted at his belief in fate aligning the stars. “That time will come when that time comes,” he told Parade in 2016. “The truth is, you can’t predict marriage. You can’t plan it. It’s just going to happen when it happens.” In recent years, however, he has remained firm in his belief that he does not see himself getting married or becoming a husband.

Winona Ryder

Winona has a long list of famous, and sometimes problematic, exes, including Johnny Depp, whom she dated and became engaged to when she was just a teenager. “I was very depressed after breaking off my engagement with Johnny,” she told Cinema.com years later. “I was embarrassingly dramatic at the time, but you have to remember I was only 19 years old.” She attributes her high standards to her parents and has said that a fear of divorce has kept her from getting married. That said, she has been in a long-term relationship with designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn for 15 years.

Jamie Foxx

Being a parent has been a major part of this celebrity’s life, but marriage has not played as significant a role. His main focus is being a dad to his daughters, Corinne Foxx and Anelise Bishop, and he is currently about to have a third child with his partner, Alyce Huckstepp. So why start multiple families without committing to marriage? Foxx told E! News, “The pressure of being married, I don’t think we can have a conversation about it. I just keep moving.”

Keanu Reeves

Reeves came close to marriage during his early years of fame, but after his partner passed away in 2001, two years after the stillbirth of their daughter, it took him many years to heal. While he has not spoken much about his grief, he told Parade, “I want to get married. I want to have kids. That’s at the top of the mountain. I’ve got to climb the mountain first. I’ll do it. Just give me some time.” He was linked to a few women before settling down with artist Alexandra Grant, whom he has been with since 2019. Still, there does not appear to be any talk of marriage on the horizon just yet.

Mindy Kaling

Although rumors have swirled about whether she is with her “The Office” co-star B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling remains unmarried. She once told Glamour, “As someone who is unmarried, I still have that old-fashioned feeling. I root for it as an institution, even though I see it work so infrequently.” As a younger woman, Kaling envisioned marriage, but she later told Bustle that although marriage could still happen, “I think I don’t necessarily need that anymore, maybe, which is a nice feeling.” She has also started a family on her own and has not disclosed the identity of her children’s father.

Jake Gyllenhaal

He has enjoyed many years of success in his acting career, but Jake Gyllenhaal’s romantic life is another story. Although his professional talent is unquestionable, his romantic future remains uncertain because, like many celebrities, he is still part of the unmarried club. When he was younger, he admitted to being scared of marriage, but on “The Howard Stern Show” in 2021, he said, “That’s all I want, to be a good husband and a father. That really is what I want.” He has been with his longtime girlfriend, Jeanne Cadieu, for many years, so we will have to see whether they eventually tie the knot.

Kristin Davis

Although many people associate Kristin Davis with Charlotte from “Sex and the City,” she is very different from her character. While she plays a marriage-oriented family woman on the show, she is the only main cast member who has never been married and has no intention of doing so. On the “Best Friend Energy” podcast, she said, “It’s not my thing. I was never focused on it,” adding that playing Charlotte required some serious acting as a result. Still, she finds fulfillment in raising her two adopted children and does not have much free time for dating. She told The Sunday Times that she prefers “deep stuff” to “small talk” and that most men do not want that.
