Hollywood has spent ages trying to tell women that aging is something you have to fight. Smooth out those wrinkles, cover up the grey hairs, and instead of celebrating milestones after 30, talk about how someone “still” looks good. They almost fooled us. And yet there are some extraordinary women in Hollywood who have decided that no one will dictate to them how to age. They have their own ideas.
1. Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek couldn’t be clearer on how she feels about turning 60. Only days after celebrating her birthday, she posted photos of herself on Instagram sans makeup, with grey hairs showing, skinny-dipping in the ocean. And the caption simply read “60 and grateful.” The comments are filled with people being amazed at her “age-defying looks.” But that’s so far from the point that Salma makes.
This attitude isn’t new to her. She has said in the past that “old” to her simply means boring and repetitive. Like something gets old when you do it the same way all the time. And her life is anything but that. She loves trying new things, having fun, and enjoying life to the fullest. So it makes sense that turning 60 for Salma is something worth celebrating, enjoying, and being grateful for.

2. Brooke Shields
Not a lot of people have experienced the extent of judgement and scrutiny that Brooke Shields has. Fame found her before she could fully comprehend what fame was, and for decades the public’s opinion of her centred around her beauty. Now that Brooke is in her 60s, she’s trying her best to redirect that conversation and make it not about the loss of youth but about what women gain as they age.
Brooke Shields has said that she thinks about life after 50 as a new beginning, and she wishes that all women would think that way. Just because your reproductive years are over and there are some physical changes doesn’t mean you’re not curious, ambitious, attractive, or relevant anymore. That’s simply not how it works. Women after 50 enter a new era of discovery and opportunity that they should enjoy to the fullest.

3. Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson is perhaps one of the most fascinating examples of how you can simply choose to change your relationship with beauty and what it means to you. She was once known as the blonde bombshell with smoky eyes and ultra-thin brows. And then suddenly, in 2023, Pamela decided that she wasn’t going to do that anymore and instead would go to fashion events with little to no makeup.
And she’s not against makeup. She even did a smoky eye for the recent 2026 Vogue shoot, but it’s more about the fact that it’s not always necessary. Makeup can be fun, but not wearing it can also be fun. There shouldn’t be rules about what a woman should look like. And her face without it isn’t a “before” to be improved. It’s just her face. It was also refreshing to hear that Pamela thinks that anti-aging is a lie and getting older is just a part of life that we should embrace.

4. Halle Berry
After turning 60, Halle Berry chose to challenge even more barriers. She has become outspoken about menopause, something that used to be considered a taboo topic in Hollywood. Why is it that women are expected to keep silent about a completely normal and natural part of aging or only talk about it in hushed tones, making sure no one overhears them? Yes, certain changes happen, but that doesn’t make a woman any less beautiful, desirable, or any less of the person she was before.
Berry has talked about the fact that even though her looks might change, she doesn’t feel less beautiful, and in fact, she likes herself more. She feels more confident, prioritises herself, and cares a lot less about anyone’s opinion.

5. Padma Lakshmi
Padma’s approach to aging has very little to do with trying to look young and focuses on refusing to become stagnant. She says that growing old gracefully, to her, means staying curious and constantly learning new things you didn’t know yesterday. Padma has also shared that with age she has discovered pleasure without guilt. She wishes she had allowed herself to enjoy things much more when she was younger, but she is certainly compensating for it now. It’s a radical way of looking at aging. Instead of ruminating on the things you lose, she’s focused on what she gains every year, be it knowledge, pleasure, curiosity, experience, or the joy of just being yourself.

6. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez takes a very glamorous approach to life. For her, embracing aging doesn’t mean abandoning skincare or makeup or exercise. She enjoys looking fantastic, and she makes sure she looks good at any age. In fact, she’s repeatedly said that she doesn’t like it when people say a woman looks good for a certain age. Why not just say that she looks good?
Lopez is in her 50s, and she’s very serious about her fitness and beauty, and she’s not trying to pretend she’s not. She’s not making it look effortless. She works out hard, and she takes good care of herself. She dismisses the notion that all her hard work can reverse the aging process and restore her youthful appearance. She strongly believes that you can be as glamorous, ambitious, strong, and beautiful as you want without treating your age like it’s some sort of a problem.

7. Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston also calls bullsh*t on the rules of aging. She has criticised compliments that include the phrase “for her age” and believes that numbers shouldn’t be included in the compliment. She is also a strong believer in having a loving relationship with her body. She works out four times a week, and she makes sure to pay extra attention to strength training because she knows about the dangers of osteoporosis in women over 50. She believes that one should approach aging with gratitude, positivity, and love for oneself, not with predetermined ideas of what a woman over 50 should look like.

8. Taraji P. Henson
Taraji is completely unapologetic in her philosophy when it comes to aging. She has no intention of allowing anyone to dictate how she should look based on her age. No one is allowed to tell her how she is expected to dress, feel, or express herself. She wants women to know that their “sexy never dies,” no matter what society’s expectations might be. And it’s not just about the attractiveness of your style. It’s about saying no to any sort of restrictions women are expected to adopt with age. You’ve heard them all, we’re sure: don’t act like that, don’t wear that, don’t expect this anymore, and don’t take up space anymore. Taraji isn’t interested in that. She likes doing what feels right to her and ignores what anyone else says, and that’s honestly #goals when it comes to aging.
